Current Employer: Department of Labor, New York Oasam Office

Aaron is an IT administrator, cinematographer and professional training presenter for the U.S. Department of Labor. He is also a mentor, professional speaker and graduate of Job Corps.

Aaron has been named the Federal Executives Board’s Employee of the Year three times for his work with the department and has been honored by the mayor of New York for his mentorship and volunteering.

After a difficult childhood in New York City, Aaron took the advice of his father and enrolled at Edison Job Corps Center an hour south of the city. While there, he studied and received advanced training in Business Technology, earning certifications in IC3, Microsoft Office, A Plus and more.

After graduating from Job Corps, Aaron attended Middlesex County College, where he completed an associate degree in computer science. Shortly thereafter, he was hired as an IT administrator for JP Morgan. After a year, he was offered a similar IT position with the Department of Labor, where he has been ever since.

“Going to Job Corps was one of the best decisions I ever made,” Aaron said. “Truly, every single thing I have today, I have because I went there. Their contagious motivation and encouragement are what got me through, even when I didn’t think I could succeed.”

During his time at Job Corps, Aaron also served as an assistant to the center’s equal opportunity counselor, accompanying her on speaking engagements to prospective students. After being asked to fill in for her during one of these engagements, Aaron discovered his hidden talent for public speaking.

“Going to Job Corps was one of the best decisions I ever made,” Aaron said. “Truly, every single thing I have today, I have because I went there. Their contagious motivation and encouragement are what got me through, even when I didn’t think I could succeed.”

Today Aaron uses his public speaking skills alongside his IT prowess in his role with the Department of Labor, delivering technical training programs to employees. Independently, he also operates his own professional speaking business, training nonprofit organizations in communications with government officials. Aaron recently traveled to New Zealand, where he competed in and won an international speech competition.
