Academic Training Overview

In addition to career training, Wind River Job Corps Center also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.

Academic Programs

Job Corps provides a very structured environment that will prepare you for the workplace.

High school equivalency program

One of our top goals at Wind River Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Wind River Job Corps are automatically enrolled into our GED/high school program. Students who complete this program's core classes may participate in an online high school diploma program which is paid for by the center.

English Language Learning

Students needing to learn English can enter our English Language Learning (ELL) program. Students in the ELL program are tested regularly by the Wyoming Student Assessment System test to determine their language proficiency levels.

Tutoring

Tutoring programs are available where students are tutored in math and reading by instructors or by fellow students (Peer Student Tutors). Students interested in getting into a tutoring program may contact their instructors or the Academic Manager.

Driver Education

Driver's Education is available to all students needing their driver's license.

College Prep

College Program

We have partnered with Central Wyoming College to provide college courses as an advanced training program to students while on center. To qualify for this program, a student must have a high school diploma or GED (from our center or another educational facility) and have successfully completed a vocational trade at Job Corps.

Benefits of the College Program include:

  • academic advisement, mentoring, and tutoring
  • paid tuition, fees, books, and supplies
  • housing and recreation
  • meals provided by Job Corps, on-and-off center
  • transportation to and from college the center is in partnership with Wind River Transit

Upon completion of your initial training, you can apply for Advanced Career Training (ACT) at Central Wyoming College to work towards earning your Associates degree.
