On the job, you will ...

  • Draw blood for tests, transfusions, research or blood donations
  • Label the collected blood for testing or processing
  • Label sterile containers for other samples, such as urine, and instruct patients on proper collection procedures 
  • Assemble, maintain and dispose of medical instruments such as needles, test tubes and blood vials

The credentials you will earn ...

In the Certified Phlebotomy Technician program, you can earn industry-recognized credentials from such organizations as: 

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

  • American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)

  • American Red Cross 

Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program.

What you’ll need to start training ...

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
  • Completion of all introductory and career preparation courses
  • Passing scores on all written and performance tests
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
